GUY JOHNSTON was born in 1981 and began cello lessons at the age of five. He studied with Steven Doane at the Eastman College of Music, New York and continued his studies with Steven Isserlis at IMS Prussia Cove and Ralph Kirshbaum in the UK. Awards include winner of the BRIT award for the best Newcomer in 2002, BBC’s Young Musician in 2000 as well as Shell/LSO Gerald Macdonald Prize, Musicians Benevolent Award and the Suggia Gift. Since making his London debut at the BBC Proms with the Elgar Cello Concerto Guy has become an international star. He has played with many famous orchestras including the London Philharmonic, BBC Philharmonic, CBSO, English Chamber Orchestra, BBC Scottish Symphony, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, RLPO and many from the continent. Guy has played in Russia, Japan and many other countries and worked with conductors like Yan Pascal ortelier and Leonard Slatkin.
TOM POSTER studied with Joan Havill at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, where he held a Postgraduate Fellowship, and at King’s College, Cambridge, where he gained a Double First in Music. Early competition successes included winning the keyboard sections of the Royal Over-Seas League and the BBC Young Musician of the Year Competitions in 2000 and more recently First Prize at the Scottish International Piano Competition in 2007. Tom appears as concerto soloist, solo recitalist and chamber musician across an extensive repertoire in a range of major international venues and has worked with the likes of Yan Pascal Tortelier and the BBC Philharmonic, Vladimir Ashkenazy and the Southbank Sinfonietta and appeared at the Wigmore Hall, the Aldeburgh, Cheltenham and Spoleto Festivals. He broadcasts regularly for BBC Radio3.
