Russell Pascoe  Keskan IV for solo violin

Bliss  2 Interludes for solo piano

Bach  Sonata no.3 in E BWV 1016 for violin and piano

This concert reveals the versatility of the violin, spanning three centuries! Bach’s violin works (c. 1720) remain central pillars of the repertoire, whilst Beethoven’s sonatas for violin & piano (1812) show mastery of the form, this one transforming struggle into serenity. In ‘Interludes’ by Bliss (1925) we find gentle moments of reflection. Arvo Pärt’s unique style is heard in the violin & piano version of Fratres (1980), contrasting these distinctive instruments with drama and spirituality. PMF commissioned Russell Pascoe to compose a solo violin piece for Paul Robertson, who noted that Keskan IV (2016) is very sympathetic to the instrument, adding that it screams: “Play me, play me!”

Daniel Pioro & Kathron Sturrock (of Fibonacci Sequence) return – Daniel promotes new music, while staying true to the virtuoso repertoire that first inspired him. Kathron is artistic director of the ‘Fibs’ and shows impressive scope and sensitivity in her recordings and performances, which also include much English music.
