As usual, the opening concert will be performed by the Pinner Parish Church Choir, a choral beacon of parish music in the diocese, directed by Martin Singleton. They perform extracts from Handel’s Messiah, and Zadok the Priest, accompanied by an orchestra who greatly impressed us last year.
Handel’s timeless music from his oratorio Messiah will inspire and uplift us. Though familiar, it continues to amaze us with its beauty, fluency and his craft – truly a masterpiece. Composed in 1741 to a libretto by Charles Jennens, it was premiered in Dublin. His rousing Coronation Anthem, Zadok the Priest, (1727) concludes this half.
From the Anthems in the second half, we can witness something of the exceptional work that the choir does throughout the year in support of the church, as well as nurturing singing and music as part of the lives of the young people who form the top line of the choir.
