The outstanding flexible chamber ensemble, the Fibonacci Sequence, open their contributions to PMF with a concert including major works by our Anniversary Composers. The early Piano Quartet by Arthur Bliss dates from 1915 and shows the influence of Brahms, but also of English folk song; a vigorous and satisfying work. After a delightful Mozartian piano sorbet, we move to Rebecca Clarke’s Viola Sonata (1919), her best known work; the viola was her own instrument, and it shows! The work combines energy and lyricism, and always sounds fresh. Schumann’s wonderful Piano Quartet (1851) reveals his innovative approach to chamber composition, and his natural flair for melody, as well as his depth of understanding of the piano. The Fibonacci Sequence (who just had their 21st birthday!) are an ensemble of exceptional individual performers that regularly delight by their focused and fresh approach, bringing a depth of musicianship and collaboration to everything that they perform – “consummate artistry, intense focus, and lyrical tone”.
